Despite not having the official neighborhood recognition (belongs to Justicia), Chueca is one of the most charming neighborhoods of Madrid. It is located in the center of the city and its main axes are Plaza de Chueca and Calle de Fuencarral . Here you can find many bars and clubs, as well as bookstores, cafes and designer shops. It is characterized a marked multicultural environment that has not lost its traditional essence. At the time the festival hosts the Gay Pride celebrations.
UNIVERSITIES
In Chueca there are no headquarters of the main universities in Madrid, although it is very convenient for those who study fashion or design, since both the IED Design Superior Center and the IADE Design School are not far away, about 15 minutes on foot. Its central location makes reaching major universities relatively easy. The metro ride from Alonso Martínez to Ciudad Universitaria, where the Complutense, Polytechnic and UNED are located, takes 34 minutes (line 4 and then 6). From Chueca you can reach the Autonomous University in 43 minutes with the Cercanías train from Recoletos, changing lines in Nuevos Ministerios. Also from Recoletos you can go with the Cercanías train to the Carlos III University Campus in Getafe in about 40 minutes.

TRANSPORT
Chueca is well connected by public transport with the rest of Madrid. The main metro stop is Chueca (line 5), although other nearby stops are less than 10 minutes away, such as Alonso Martínez (lines 4, 5 and 10) or Gran Vía (lines 1 and 5). The Recoletos station, a short 8 minutes walk from Chueca, is very useful and convenient to travel to areas further away from the city with the Cercanías train and universities like the Autonomia or the Getafe campus of the Carlos III University.
