USAL (Universidad de Salamanca) is the University of Salamanca. Established in 1164, the University of Salamanca is Spain’s oldest university, and among the oldest in the world, too. USAL’s faculties are spread out in 6 locations around Salamanca. The university is specialised and well-known for its language studies, but is also popular for its Law and Economics departments. USAL is one of the most popular universities within the ERASMUS programme, so you know you’ll be meeting people from every corner of Europe. Plus, as Salamanca isn’t as big as Madrid and Barcelona, you’ll find that there’s a much tighter knit student community, present everywhere you go around the city. Everything in Salamanca is within walking distance for most, but you can always get a bicycle to get you there faster. Alternatively, you can use the local bus services to get you to your faculty.
