El Raval is a centrally located neighborhood with a vibrant atmosphere. It is adjacent to the Gothic Quarter (Barri Gotic) in the east, to El Poble Sec in the south and to Sant Antoni in the west. It is a picturesque and multicultural area with people from many different countries living in it. This results in a huge variety of establishments and shops in the area. You will find the museum of contemporary art, the library of Catalonia, the Güell Palace, the Boqueria market and the Gran Teatre del Liceu in El Raval.
UNIVERSITIES
The University Pompeu Fabra is located in the Gothic Quarter and it is just 10 minutes on foot from the southern part of El Raval. The main building of the University of Barcelona is just 15 minutes away too.
The university area consists of two campus of the Polytechnical University of Catalonia as well as the Pharmacy and Economics faculty of the UB and it is very well connected to El Raval thanks to the metro line number 3. The drive from Liceu to the university area takes approximately 25 minutes.
FLATS FOR STUDENTS IN EL RAVAL
The neighborhood’s good connections to the main universities make it a good area for students to look for accommodation. There is a lower amount of available flats for higher prices than in adjacent quarters, which is due to the high demand for accommodation in this area.
Nevertheless, Uniplaces does have a great variety of student rooms in El Raval. These are rooms with single or double beds in shared flats, nice studios or one room flats for students looking for more privacy.
TRANSPORTS
El Raval is well connected to the rest of the city. The nearest subway stations are within the borders of the quarter and they are called Drassanes (line 3), Paralel (lines 2 and 3) and Liceu (line 3). Bus line 120 is the main one covering the area. You can get to Plaza Catalunya by public transport from El Raval within 10 minutes, to Sagrada Familia within 15 minutes and to the train station Sants - which has a direct train line to the airport - within 20 minutes.
